Tips for weapon making
I would like to make a staff/glaive pretty much like what I have been borrowing and was hoping people would have helpful tips, do's and don'ts, where to start.........

So is it more staff or more staff with a blade on the end? Also, about how many inches overall are you going for?

The blade was about 6 inches, the overall staff was )I think) close to minimum height.Kestrel wrote:Staff with a blade. Small blade, about six inches.

My advice, make a spear, it's easier. Otherwise attaching the blade to the weapon can be a pain in whatever part of anatomy you feel like referencing.

Kestrel, my honest advice is to talk to Bob, the guy that plays Crunch.

Part of the problem with a weapon like a staff or pole arm is that you have to decided if you're going to pad the whole thing which can be pretty big around or to leave the hand spots without padding. If you leave the hand holds without padding you HAVE to keep you hands on those spots.
For making weapons I've found the little section in the rule book really good for what to use for the basic CPVC part and the padding, it just doesn't help much with adding extra padding for blades or putting tape on it so it looks good.
I'm thinking from the description you can use 1 inch CPVC (as long as the overall length is less that 79 inches) which you can get at Home Depot, Menards or similar. For padding the staff part you want the 5/8 inch foam pipe insulation. For the blade part it depends on how big of a blade you are looking at and if you want to go for easy and ugly construction or something less ugly but more complicated? Either way you will also need duct tape (of course), some kind of open cell foam, craft spray glue, and saran wrap. Open cell foam can be found at most craft stores (better quality) or even Walmart, its the foam sheets used for pillows or cushions. For this weapon you would probably want 1 1/2 to 2 inch thickness.
Let me know and I can try and talk you through more of it or if you want to bring parts to the October event I can probably help you throw it together at the start of Friday night and depending on how much we have to glue have it ready before Friday night is even over.

Krestil send me a pic of your weapon. Think I have a spare you can have.

Gunnar, she's been borrowing the glaive-type weapon from NPC camp. I don't know if that helps or not, but it's currently in the trailer.

Don't forget to keep in mind the weapon type you are using. Staves and Glaives may be in different elements.

Brian, she's been using it as a staff, and got the okay to do so from whichever GM was there when she grabbed it at the start of her first event.

In game I call it a practice glaive which explains the shape and blunt damage.

Shes been using one of the old school NPC spears. (staff with and opencell 'blade' on one end)
Roughly 5' long with no frills.
