Where are the Barbarian Lands? Are they to the South? Though the stanza refers to "Islands to the south," Pirate Isles? Corsair Isles?

I've been to the Corsair Islands. Not very friendly down there, but they have an extensive sensualist's guild and some fun places to stay :)

I have a map. To the south lies the Corsair Isles, Mephistophles reef, Isle of Lost Diamonds. The map denotes Escalapians near here.

The wastes in the north could perhaps refer to the Great Salt Flats.

There is also the Goblins Forest, Arii, I believe.

My map is not a complete view of our world but, you are all welcome to take a look.
