i might shy away from using names that are from common media and movies. if you give your character a name with a lot of real world meaning it can be hard to distingish yourself as a unique character. i've played in a couple of other larps and they discouraged the more "popular" names. feel free to name your character what you wish i am by no means a gm nor do i dislike 300 :) just my 2 cents

plus leonidas wasn't an assassin type.

Its funny that GILF should mention that as Ive recently been contacted about others 'intellectual properties'..

In short a brief outline may make its way into the rulebook during the off season.

1. I know that was horrible grammar.
2. Duh! Leonidas was not an assassin.... He did assassinate some persians though.
3. I dont like being told what to name my character.. Especially that is is one of my choices in making of my character.
4. Thanks though. :fist:

Well, he didn't tell you what to name your character. He merely suggested that you might want to think about another name for one and gave you a few reasons why. It is completely up to you if you want to have an original, creative name that adds to the game and setting. Its also up to you if you want to be boring and unimaginative and just use someones else's name and everytime your name comes up people can think of the movie 300 instead of being immersed in the game setting. Totally up to you... :D

Of course, to be fair, we have had characters in game before who's names were quite well known from fantasy books. Strider, for example. I never could stop comparing the character in the game to the character from the book though.

*cough* Conner McLeod *cough*

I have no idea what tool came up with that name... <_< >_>

Of course, Eld and Edrick aren't exactly original either. At least they aren't as blantantly obvious. Basically, we have a long tradition of stealing names, and freely welcome them. However, the less mainsteam ones do work out a little better due to people having pre defined ideas about how this person acted.

wait a sec is Gilf not an original name? if it isn't i'll change it!! i could be Golf.

on the related note, i am by no means telling you what to name your character. it all depends on what you want out of your RP experience. if you want to put a twist on a popular character and tell a new story from that, then rock on dude. however, if you're intending to tell a new story about a unique character that nobody has heard of then i might recommend changing the name. keep in mind that this is mearly my advice. i'll not be offended if you decide to keep your name. this is just one rp's advice to another :) hope to see ya at game

I think every gamer has stolen a name from something else at one time or another. Solari's last name is what the Aiel call Rand with some crap wrapped around it and I stole THAT from a table top character I played a long time ago.
