Dark Eye, Bells, and reinforcements....

Post by Mylo Fynnigan »

*Mylo rolls up his sleeves and appears to be lost in thought, quill steady in hand as he stares fixedly at a scattered pile of parchment in front of him*
*Eventually he raises his head with a questioning look on his face*

Once again I may be treading over ground overwrought with footprints, but I think I may have found something. It seems obvious though….If indeed it was already found to be, than please disregard my speculation. I have no skill with which to decipher an epic enigma such as this, other than friendly conversation.
Where to begin..hmmmmmm *flips through some pages* Oh yes, lets start here.
In reading through I saw a reference to a “Dark Eye” that for some reason gave me that tickle in my sub-brain area that I have learned to investigate further when it occurs. So I went back to the first mention that I could find of the “Dark Eye”, that was in stanza 2, I will reiterate it here just so that it is easier for me to keep my thoughts on track:

2
On longest day starts darkest night.
In Chaos peaks, son fights for life, his fate turns to dust.
In Halls of Bough, Queen sighs, for end comes nigh.
No new babes to come, for here the secret lies.
Hope's light is lost by glare of Dark Eye.
Part of one, yet in arrogance part of none,
Sun sets on the oldest land; wood, water, and sand.
Only truth be known will lend them might.

That sentence in and of itself doesn’t mean a whole lot to me, save for the fact that I am a pretty big fan of “Hope”. So I continued on my tangent and read through to stanza 5, where I encountered my next reference.

5
Before the Second Breaking, their race was one,
Divided by ocean, now turned to dust.
They fought the Great War before Dark Eye scorched.
They wander by ship and skiff, under high sun,
They rest under shadow of the sleeping one.
Children of Dust, they wait for the Child of Bough.
Hoping to become One once more, lest live ever alone.
Blind the Dark Eye so they may hear the call

Here is that pesky “Dark Eye” again, this time it is keeping us from a potential ally in that of these Fire Elves. I am venturing to guess that they are lonely and live in the Sea of Dust. Maybe they miss their elven brethren, I dunno…but I digress. So I plowed on to catch my next reference and I hit stanza 7.

7
In the Kingdom of Mountains and Hills, darkness reigns.
Plants die, crops wither, the very stone grows cold.
The Dark Brother returns to claim the throne so bold.
Secrets of Kings may aid their Battle, yet the price is much,
For brother may fight brother while sisters quarrel such.
When all seems lost, the Bell will sound, Then are the forgotten brethren found.
From beyond the waves, up from the dust, come their trains.”

I was really wracking my brain on this one. I am assuming that the Kingdom of Mountains and Hills in referring to the Dwarven homeland, and if darkness is reigning perhaps that refers to the battle with the dark elves. “ The Plants die….” part seems to me to be referring to the coming of Winter which is upon us soon. Then this “Dark Brother” will return to claim the throne….So it seems whilst the Dwarves are busy with the Dark Elves, Gromm of Draconis will try to snag the throne. The next few lines didn’t spark anything for me, until I got to “When all seems lost the, Bell will sound, Then are the forgotten brethren found.
From beyond the waves, up from the dust, come their trains.”

I am rambling….but here is my hypothesis. I believe that in order for the Dwarves to win this war with the Dark Elves and soon to be Gromm as well, they are going to need the help of The Fire Elves and the Merfolk. Though they cannot be called for due to the blasted “Dark Eye”, which screams of Dark Elven anti something creation. We must blind this dark eye and get this bell rung before the coming winter, or I fear there may be no hope for the Dwarves, and they will lose this battle.

I believe I heard someone say the "Dark Eye" stood for the Red Tear. As I understand it, they have a considerably formidable outpost in the Sea of Dust near the Fire Elves.

As for the Bell, the last I had heard of it was that our good Thane Galen held the pieces.

Blast!

*Mylo uses the back of his arm to violently sweep the stack of parchment in front of him into the fire*

*Bows his head in mock solemnity*

In the marathon that is our race against time I fear that the only look we will have of this Prophecy is from behind.

Come what may, for better or worse, at least we will all burn together.

*Mylo swiftly rises and departs*
