The bearded man flinchs as if hit by something.

"What're you doin' ta me, witch!?!"

A bolt of lightning arcs from his hand to Kimberlyn. The people around him scream in terror and scatter.

The second lightning bolt actually bounces off Kimberlyn and arcs back at the bearded man, who angrily swipes it aside.

He screams in frustration and fires off a third bolt.

Kimberlyn is charging forward, swords drawn, as the third bolt hits and is again returned to the caster. The bearded man again dissipates the magic, this time with more difficulty, and again extends a hand to attack, but Kimberlyn strikes first.

The swords flash. The man’s arm flies off to the right while his head arcs up spinning through the air. His body falls to its knees, then topples lifelessly to the ground.

All is silent for a few seconds, then cheers and applause grows from the crowd. A chant is quickly taken up by the throng.

“MAGE-SLAYER! MAGE-SLAYER! MAGE-SLAYER!”

All the growing ire seems to have been washed away by the incident. The angry mob gathering about Sylas and the guards sheepishly back off, lowering their crude weapons – leaving the immigrant in custody on his own.

The immigrant drops to his knees and grovels at Sylas’s boots.

"Pleeease sir, dont put me in jail. I'm sorry. It wont happen again. The guards just scared me is all. I promise. Pleeease have mercy!"

what have you never seen her do her job?
He was asked to present papers or join the mages guild. he did neither and attacked her. She responder as she is supposed to. And considering the damage he could have done to most other people in this town with that spell along with the fact he seemed to not have a problem using it, she did the right thing.
Though i admit it was quite the show.

I'm not sure what is more pathetic...

*** Darthesis inserts a dramatic pause before continuing.

That someone's famous last words would be 'Bacon'... or "Mercy'

*** Darthesis turns to address the throng

You will all...learn that although these wildlands do not have the numbers of defenders of the law and dispensers of justice you are used to... the ones that do exist are found to be significantly more dangerous... and MUCH less forgiving.

Actually no I haven't seen her do anything of the sort.

*looks at Kimbelyn and says * An inpressive show I must say.

The people quiet down to wide-eyed murmuring after Darthesis’s words.

Thandar nods appreciatively. “Oh, you KNOW some will feel the need to test that, THOUGH I CERTAINLY DON’T RECOMMEND THAT THEY DO.” That last he directs toward his fellow travelers.
